Abstract
The film tells about the problems in the fishing industry and, in particular, related to salmon fishing on Sakhalin. The film includes the following filming: fishing boats at sea during the fishing season, salmon spawning off the coast of Sakhalin, fishermen fishing for salmon, the production of canned fish at one of the Sakhalin fish factories, a view of dead fish off the coast of Sakhalin, the work of equipment to harvest dead fish, fish trade and canned fish in stores, the view of the shelves in one of the stores filled with cans of pollock, views of Moscow streets, passers-by and beggars on the streets, queues at the Ryba and Vino stores in Moscow. The film uses newsreel footage: fishing by Sakhalin fishermen in the 50s, a meeting of the USSR Armed Forces with the participation of the Minister of Fisheries N.I. Kotlyar in 1990.
