The film, consisting of three short stories, tells about contemporary Russian icon painters Alexei Vronsky, Ilgiz Khanov, Elena Lykova. The scriptwriter, art critic and restorer Savely Yamshchikov, talks about the revival of Russian icon painting, about the creative path of A. Vronsky (sinhr.). Ilgiz Khanov talks about his work on iconostases, incl. about work in the Solovetsky Monastery (sinhr.). Elena Lykova talks about her path to icon painting (sinhr.). Types of monasteries: Pokrovsky, Savior-Evfimievsky (Suzdal); Solovetsky. Icon painters work in workshops, in churches. Interiors of temples. River landscapes (Suzdal). The film uses footage of newsreels from the 1920s and 1930s.
