A film about the life and work of the Kyrgyz writer Ch. Aitmatov, assembled from photographs and newsreels depicting the writer in different years, his meetings with R. G. Gamzatov, M. Antonioni, M. Tursunzade, D. D. Shostakovich, M. S Karalaev, L. Aragon and readers, presentation of the Lenin Prize for the book "Tale of Mountains and Steppes" in the Kremlin, filming in the village of Gleker, where Ch. Aitmatov was born and lives, the life of his fellow villagers, landscapes of Kyrgyzstan. The film includes fragments from the feature films "The First Teacher", "The Run of the Pacing", "White Steamer", "Early Cranes", based on the works of Ch. Aitmatov. The film uses materials from the State Archive of Film and Photo Documents of the Kirghiz SSR. Ch. Aitmatov reads the text behind the scenes.
