It Was an Autumn Day

The film tells about the test of an atomic bomb during an exercise on September 14, 1954 in the Orenburg region. Part I. Residents of the Orenburg region E.I. Samarkin and R.I. Samarkina and her family and friends are celebrating the 34th anniversary of the military exercises with the atomic bomb test near their home village. Yegor Ivanovich, a witness of those events, talks about his impressions of the explosion and, most importantly, about the consequences of the exercises. Nikolay Filippovich Gazin, director of the state farm "Magnit", Totsk district of the Orenburg region, tells about the same. The film uses footage of b / w chronicles with an atomic explosion and an interview with the Soviet nuclear physicist, future president of the USSR Academy of Sciences Anatoly Petrovich Aleksandrov. Part II. His story about the consequences of a nuclear bomb test, about the impact of radiation on local residents, about the lack of medical examination of people continues E.I. Samarkin and N.F. Gazin. The footage of the b / w chronicle shows the preparation of the American military for aggression against the USSR; peaceful Americans, preparing for war, equip a bomb shelter; people from many countries of the world participate in protests, demonstrations, fighting against atomic war; the World Congress for General Disarmament and Peace is being held in Moscow, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR N.S. Khrushchev.
