Abstract
Siberia. The village of Zhulanka. Winter 2003. The forager of the horse farm Valentina talks about the stallion Stepan, whom she raised and whom the management of the farm decided to castrate for his violent temper and disobedience, discusses this problem with fellow villagers (synchronously and off-screen). Valentina works on the farm, looks after Stepan, sings folk songs in Belarusian (synchronously), bakes pies with her sisters. The groom goes round Stepan. Stepan leads the herd into the field, fights with other stallions. Horse farm workers are caring for the horses, talking about Stepan (synchronously). Movement of carts, sleighs, triplets. The holiday of seeing off the Russian winter in the village. Costumed. Folk competitions. Valentina is riding a troika with an accordion. Winter landscapes of the village and its surroundings.
